  • News: Women in Combat Special Airs March 9

    A documentary airing on the History Channel this weekend is honoring Women Combat Pilots in honor of Women's History Month. The special, airing Sunday, March 9 at 7 p.m., is entitled Women Combat Pilots: The Right Stuff and is devoted to women of the military who were once unheard of and not properly recognized. Half of the hour-long documentary is devoted to the WASPs (Women Airforce Service Pilots) and sequences of the film were filmed at Republic Airport's American Airpower Museum in Farmingdale.   • News: Local Assemblymen Call for Measure Against Cyber Sex Predators

    Assemblymen James Conte and Andrew Raia (R,C - East Northport) recently announced their support for a tough new measure designed to protect children from sex predators who use online chat rooms or prowl the streets in an attempt to lure young children into having sex. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Bobcats Hockey Season Coming to a Close

    Hockey on Long Island, sports longest season is coming to a close. Tryouts were in June, training camp in September. The season started in October, and the rewards are coming in February and March. It has been a long season for the New York Bobcats Bantam Major Team (14 year olds). Coach Andy Cozzi of Newbridge Arena in Bellmore trained this group of first time teammates. This hard working dedicated group of athletes hail from all over Long Island with one boy coming from The Czech Republic. A great story about an underdog team came to a happy ending this past weekend when the Bobcats clinched a spot in the Long Island Amateur Hockey League Playoffs, solidifying an invitation to the New York State Amateur Hockey Association Tournament outside Syracuse March 14-16.   • Sports: Youth Basketball Teams Wanted for Charity Tournament

    The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island is looking for youth and adult men's basketball teams of all ages to participate in a 3-3 basketball tournament, which will be held on May 31 at Cantaigue Park in Hicksville. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Ronald McDonald House ("RMH"). Ronald McDonald will be on hand performing a magic show for the siblings. FULL STORY
