Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto announced that the Town's Department of Community and Youth Services, Division of Senior Citizens Services, is offering a free workshop of 10 writing sessions, entitled "Memories for Now and the Future," for town seniors who wish to record their memories for the present and the future.
"This workshop, which will be held at the Syosset-Woodbury Community Center, gives town seniors an excellent opportunity to recall and document special moments, events and celebrations they might have experienced while living in the Town of Oyster Bay," Venditto said. "If any of your special memories involve the town, you might even want to post them on 'My Town of Oyster Bay Memories' found in the 350th anniversary section of the Town's Web site, www.oysterbaytown.com.
"Led by professor Lorraine Mund, the workshop will involve discussion, free writing and guided writing," Venditto noted. "With no previous writing experience needed, it's a great chance for town seniors to learn a new talent."
According to Venditto, the workshop is limited to the first 12 participants, so seniors should sign up through their senior club as soon as possible. The sessions will be on Tuesdays from 9 to 10:30 a.m., at the Syosset-Woodbury Community Center, starting in March and meeting weekly through the middle of May.
The schedule of sessions is as follows:
Tuesdays, March 4, 11, 18 and 25
Tuesdays, April 1, 8, 22 and 29
Tuesdays, May 6 and 13
"This wonderful workshop is guaranteed to expand horizons and improve writing skills," Venditto stated. "Any senior interested in awakening new talents and developing untapped skills should make a point to attend this workshop."
