The Farmingdale Hawks concluded their 40th season of quality football and cheerleading programs with the boys annual awards dinner at the Huntington Hilton last Friday. A great time was had by all 450 in attendance. Special thanks goes to Ex- NY Jet Bobby Jackson who took time to speak and give the boys an inspiring message about hard work and being able to accomplish anything you put your mind to. The Hawks have always impressed this goal upon their players and the boys really enjoyed hearing it from a pro player.
All players on teams ages 5-14 receive trophies but the night had some very special awards and scholarships given out to celebrate long-term Hawk accomplishments. Farmingdale High School Senior Scott Gale received the Richard Clinton Memorial Award from Buddy Krumenacker for a former Farmingdale Hawk who excels at the high school level in football, athletics and leadership. Scott was a great selection and gave a terrific speech thanking everyone including the Hawks for what he learned during his early years. The award also includes a $250 college scholarship.
Lenny Mormino won the Michael Petito Award for a graduating 14-year-old Senior player. This award is given based on an equal amount of athletics and scholastic accomplishments and Lenny was a most worthy recipient. Lenny gave a great speech after the award to thank everyone.
Tony Restaino won the Man of the Year award for his above and beyond efforts on and off the field. Tony is a true credit to his community and the Hawks. He is always available. Thank you Tony.
The Hawks would like to thank all the local, town, state and community leaders who attended and wished us well.
The Cheerleading dinner will be tonight at the Stuart Thomas Manor and tickets are still available. Feel free to stop by if you have any questions about our outstanding programs. The Hawks provide about 20 teams for boys and girls ages 5-14. Registration is scheduled for Friday and Saturday March 21 and 22 at Weldon E. Howitt.
