Apartment Fire Leaves Dozens Homeless
On Jan. 23, one of the coldest days so far this year, a fire broke out at the Secatogue Avenue Apartment complex in Farmingdale. Farmingdale firefighters responded swiftly, with mutual aid assistance coming from the South Farmingdale, East Farmingdale and North Massapequa Fire Departments. The fire reportedly was started by a reckless smoker.

Assemblymembers Join in Commuter Tax Issue Hearing
The proposed reinstatement of a commuter tax on Long Island residents who work in New York City was the topic of discussion at a recent hearing sponsored by Suffolk Assemblyman Thomas F. Barraga, the ranking Republican on the Assembly Ways and Means Committee, and his colleagues in the Assembly Republican Long Island Delegation. The hearing was held in Northport on Jan. 23 and was attended by several local elected officials.

Hawks Conclude 40th year with Annual Awards Gala
The Farmingdale Hawks concluded their 40th season of quality football and cheerleading programs with the boys annual awards dinner at the Huntington Hilton last Friday. A great time was had by all 450 in attendance. Special thanks goes to Ex- NY Jet Bobby Jackson who took time to speak and give the boys an inspiring message about hard work and being able to accomplish anything you put your mind to. The Hawks have always impressed this goal upon their players and the boys really enjoyed hearing it from a pro player.
