The Farmingdale Baseball League 10-year-old fall team played a season of doubleheaders every Saturday at various locations on Long Island. Although the weather didn't always cooperate, the boys did a great job. The team finished off the season splitting a doubleheader against Syosset.

The team had several very generous sponsors: HSBC, Local 7 of the Carpenter's Union and Contour Mortgage Company. The team sends a hearty thanks to these sponsors, without whom the team would not have gone this far.

The team included Joseph Castrogiovanni, Gregory Coppola, James Darcy, Joseph Kennedy, Patrick Kircher, Chris Langon, Chris Leo, Josh McDowell, Jake Rachiele, Brandon Romano, Derek Venezia, Brandon Veracka, Billy Warren and Eric Zilg. The manager was Russ Castrogiovanni. Coaches included Jim Darcy and Paul Leo. Special assistant coaches were Greg Coppola, Jeff Kircher and Bob Romano.

This wonderful group of boys and their parents brought food donations to every practice and game and then donated over 150 pounds of non-perishable food, household items and several toys to the Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park. For their efforts, they received a letter of thanks and appreciation from the organization's executive director and house manager. In addition to thanking them for their donations, the letter also stated that "the residents truly appreciate your kindness. In-kind gifts from the community touch our residents deeply. Knowing the community cares means the world to them. Your understanding of what the Ronald McDonald House means to a family in crisis is very important to us. To be relieved from the financial burden of hotel accommodations, or the agony of sleeping at bedside for extended periods of time, makes an incredible difference to families. After a grueling day at the hospital, the only comfort a parent has is to get a safe, warm bed at night as close to their child as possible. We are proud that you found our organization worthy of your support."

Through such efforts, this team utilizes their ability to direct their teamwork both on and off the field. The boys plan to work together, again as a team, to accomplish additional service projects in the future. Congratulations to this outstanding group of athletes, their parents and coaches.
