The stage was set. The fans were in the stands (coffee in hand - it's 9 a.m.!), the boys ran out, the cheers rang up and the game began.

The teams were well matched making for exciting play. The first half ended with neither team having an advantage as a result of the outstanding efforts of both defensive squads.

As the final seconds ran down on the clock in the fourth quarter, however, the score board showed Massapequa ahead. Yet in the eyes of the fans, the Hawks still walked off the field as "winners." They had a great season and getting to the championship game was an incredible accomplishment.

Throughout the year the boys have consistently given their all, and they take away from the experience more than an impressive win record. They have improved their skills, made new friends and have demonstrated great sportsmanship. The parents are very proud of them.

They would also like to thank head coach Jim Essig and assistants Anthony Brescia, George Calvo, John Starke and Chris Tuttle for their time and effort.

The team has one more appearance, exhibition play during halftime at the Meadowlands on Dec. 8. Have fun!
