Farmingdale and Massapequa runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes of all ages and levels of ability are invited to sign up for the third annual "Fly with the ANGELS" four-mile run on Saturday, Oct. 12, which this year will for the first time be held in the friendly confines of Eisenhower Park.

Join in for an excellent four-mile race and for the "Lunch by the Bay" that follows - an all-you-can-eat barbecue with all the trimmings (including the best new brews from the Blue Point Brewery) that is absolutely free to all participants and volunteers. There will be a big raffle with a grand prize of "A Night in Manhattan," featuring show tickets, hotel accommodations and limousine service.

The run will be managed by the Greater Long Island Running Club, under the overall direction of Darlene Ragone of the ANGELS organization, with timing and results courtesy of David Katz of Finish Line Road Race Technicians.

Just ask those who were there in the past - this will be a very pleasant morning with lots of amenities for everyone. The entire net proceeds of the run will benefit a very important cause - the Aneurysm Network for Grants, Education and Loving Support (A.N.G.E.L.S.) for the benefit and support of victims of brain aneurysms and their families.

The Honorary Chairman of the run is the Honorable Congressman Peter King, who is lending his support to the event and to the great work that the ANGELS organization is doing. This year for the first time, the ANGELS Run has become part of the KeySpan Grand Prix of Long Island road racing and KeySpan and Long Island Track and Field will be presenting a $1,000 check to the ANGELS to mark the occasion.

The four-mile run will start at exactly 10:30 a.m. by the Eisenhower Park Fieldhouse and will be preceded by a quarter-mile fun run for Junior Angels age 12 and under.

Awards in the four-mile run will be presented to the top male and female finishers overall, the top three male and female wheelchair finishers, the top three male and female open and masters racewalkers, the top three male and female finishers in each of the 14 five-year age groups commencing at 14 and under and running through 75 and older and the top three male and female finishers in each of the two "Clydesdale" Weight Divisions.

Every registrant in the four-mile run will be presented with a top quality commemorative shirt and every finisher in the quarter-mile fun run will receive a special medal.

The entry fee is $17 for the four-miler and $6 for the fun run for those who pre-register through Oct. 11 and $20 for the four-miler and $7 for the fun run for those who wait until the day of the run to sign up at Eisenhower Park. Pre-registration will also be available at the Runner's Edge in Farmingdale between noon and 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11.
