Barco posted its 12th win of the season with an exciting 11-8 victory over Mers. Again clutch RBI hitting, this week by Terry McPartland, Dave Ringer, Rick Pedone and Bob Diamond, led the offense. Good overall defense, along with a key double play by McPartland, kept Mers from putting together any big innings, allowing Barco to keep its early game lead.
McCourt & Trudden (M&T) improved its record to 10-5 with a 16-10 victory over Morgan B's in 10 innings. M&T scored six runs in the top of the 10th and then held Morgans scoreless in the bottom of the inning for the win. Mark Lubowsky, Tom Arcuri, Nat Corrao, Sal Ditrioia and Frank Tiscione had all three hits. Brian Caroll had a two-run homer. Nine different players drove in runs for a team victory.
Morgan B's kept it close the entire game which was tied after nine innings. Tommy Vanasco continued his run at rookie of the year going 3 - 4 with a dramatic three-run homerun late in the game to tie the score at 9-9 . Bob Cruickshank and Dave Rubino each had two hits and Richie Dargie took three walks for the team. Bobby Joyce kept the young M&T off its stride by pitching a great game.
Darien Press lost to Barboy by the score of 21-12. Joe Manning continued his torrid hitting with a perfect 3-3 night and nine for his last 11. Danny Arenholz, 3-3, Bobby Schubert, 3-3, Joe Algerio, 2-3, 4 RBIs and Rookie Bob "Nicky" Nicolosi, 2-3, 2 RBIs, led the offense as Darien ended the regular season with a 9-5 record and won the National League title.
Granny O'Shea's battled a sparked J-Two team to a 14-13 loss. The seesaw game went to the end when J-Two scored five runs in the eighth. O'Shea's came back with three in the ninth to fall short. Each with four hits on the night were Bruce Kubart, Tom Taylor and Robbie Kirk, who also had a triple, homerun and six RBIs. Tom Lanney and John Louisi each had three hits.
There are no games this week due to the Labor Day Holiday. The annual Benefit Tournament will start on Friday, Sept. 6. We are playing the tournament for the benefit of the Leukemia Foundation this year. There will be more information on this event in next week's edition.
