[Last] Thursday, we celebrated the end of another successful Junior Golf Program at Bethpage State Park. Twelve years ago with the selfless dedication of my friends, John Devine and Al Benner, I started this Junior Golf Program. I never anticipated that we would go on to teach thousands of our area youth.

This Junior Golf Program is the largest volunteer Junior Program in the United States. The success could not have been anticipated and wouldn't have been achieved without the help of countless coaches and parents. I would be remiss if I did not credit Bethpage Park Head Golf Professional, Joe Rehor and his talented staff for their enthusiastic cooperation.

At this time, however, due to the lack of cooperation from the Bethpage State Parks Superintendent office, we regretfully announce that we can't continue this program under these conditions. On behalf of the entire Junior Golf Volunteer staff, I would like to thank Mayor Joe Trudden and all the parents and children who have helped make this program a great success for the past 12 years.

I especially want to thank my close friends, John Devine, Al Benner and Bill Bauer for dedicating the past 12 summers to instructing the junior golfers, while enjoying a 100 percent safety record.
