The Camp for Kids Campaign is sponsored by Transplantation Services University Hospital and Medical Center in Stony Brook. The program is designed specifically for children who suffer from any kind of disease and need dialysis treatments, whether it be post or pre transplant. It provides them with two full weeks of summer camp, all expenses paid.

The program is made possible by the collection of the tabs from aluminum can tops. Money collected from the tops is used to send as many children as possible to summer camp. Many organizations are involved in assisting in this program. Just a few to mention are: Telephone Pioneers, AARP 3967, Knights of Columbus and many other senior citizen groups and "Mr. Hank" of the Scouts.

Recently, the program received a boost from a younger source, the St. Adalbert School in Elmhurst, Queens. A third-grade teacher, Sister Mary Anthony asked her class to collect and save the tabs. The class collected approximately 72,000 tabs. There are many middle people in this chain, such as Tex Blackwell, Grace Ross, George Ambrosio and many others who passed along whatever they collect.

All residents are invited to become more involved in this program to ensure that the program will continue with the wonderful work in sending the children with kidney problems to summer camp.
