  • News: Farmingdale American Legion Post Formed

    Name Selected, Officers Elected, More Members Urged -- The newly-formed American Legion Post in Farmingdale is well underway and post officers were recently elected and sworn in by Nassau County Commander John Marino. The Hugh C. Newman III Memorial Post 449 was named after a lifelong Farmingdale resident who was a highly decorated Vietnam veteran and firefighter. Marino said that while deciding what to name the post, Farmingdale Village Mayor suggested Newman's name as he was well-known and respected in the community. Newman also worked at SUNY Farmingdale and was a life member of the Farmingdale Fire Department, in which he was very active. FULL STORY

  • News: Defunct Local Travel Agency to Make Refunds

    Over 50 Consumers Sought Assistance After Travel Plans Suddenly Cancelled -- A Farmingdale-based travel agency is being pressed to provide full refunds to its customers after canceling trips and providing no monetary refunds. Attorney General Eliot Spitzer recently announced a settlement with the defunct Long Island travel company, Good Friends Travel Club Inc., to provide full monetary refunds to dozens of consumers, many of them seniors, whose scheduled tours last spring were suddenly cancelled.     When members from the Sons of Italy-Columbus Lodge #2143 took the field and defeated the Hempstead Hitmen 18-6, all of them were anticipating a new homerun record would be set, and why not? All season, Anthony "Big Sausage" Curran has been hitting homeruns at a record pace. "This has been a breakout year for Anthony," said Lions captain Ed Bochynski.   • Sports: LI Bucs Season a Success

    The inaugural season of the Long Island Bucs Baseball Club was a tremendous success. This group of 14-year-old boys played a tough schedule and came through it as proven ball players .The wins were hard to come by but each boy came away with a positive thought for next season. Playing in the Federation of Amateur Baseball Leagues the players fought hard against some of the best competition Long Island has to offer. FULL STORY
