The 52nd summer of supervised recreational and instructional programs for children enrolled with the Farmingdale School District begins on Thursday, June 27.
Registration for all activities will be held in the Farmingdale High School cafeteria on Saturday, June 22 from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Fees are listed below. Parent/guardian must be present to register children for all activities.
A supervised recreation program for children entering grades 1 - 7 as of September 2002. Program meets Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning June 27 and concluding Aug. 2. Activities to include: organized recreational games, arts & crafts, basketball and softball leagues, weekly special events, trips and much more. Register on Saturday, June 22 from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. at the high school cafeteria. $10 registration fee per child required. Special event and trip fees not included. Parent/guardian must be present to register. Information regarding activities will be available at the center your child attends.

Howitt Middle School
Supervised recreation program for children entering grades 7 - 12 as of September 2002. Activities planned include: volleyball, basketball, ping-pong and more. Program meets Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings at 6:30 to 9 p.m. beginning July 1 and concluding July 30 at the Howitt School West Gymnasium. Register in the high school cafeteria on Saturday, June 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. $10 registration fee per child required. Parent/guardian must be present to register.
Swim instruction for children entering grades 1 to 3 as of September 2002 at the Howitt Pool. One hour classes, which include group instruction and free swim for weekday sessions. Classes are organized by ability. Session 1: June 27 - July 10 (closed July 4 and 5). Session 2: July 11 - July 22. Session 3: July 23 - Aug. 2 (July 31, 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. classes only; Aug. 1, 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m. classes only). Class times: 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m. Register in the high school cafeteria on Saturday, June 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. $20 registration fee per child/per session required. One hour classes, which include group and individual instruction for a one-week session (Monday to Friday). Session 1: July 8 - July 12, Session 2: July 15 - July 19. Session 3: July 22 - July 26. Session 4: July 29 - Aug. 2. Class times: Noon - 1 p.m. Register in the high school cafeteria on Saturday, June 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. $20 registration fee per child/per session required. Supervised recreational swimming for children entering grades 3 - 12 as of September 2002 at the high school pool, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 9 p.m., beginning July 1 and concluding July 30. Register at the high school pool at the first session on Monday, July 1. $10 registration fee per child. Parent/guardian must be present to register. Please note: Through the cooperation of the Farmingdale Public Schools Continuing Education Program, parents are invited to join their children at the swimming activity.
A multidimensional and highly creative program designed for boys and girls entering grades 5 to 12 as of September 2002. Theater games, characterization, improvisation, dramatics, vocals, and the technical aspects of the theater are explored in this program. A group performance will be staged and presented as part of this program. Program is scheduled to meet Monday - Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. beginning Thursday, June 27. The Junior Program (grades 5 - 6) is scheduled to meet in the Saltzman East Memorial School Auditorium. The Senior Program (grades 7 - 12) is scheduled to meet in the Howitt School Auditorium. Register in the high school cafeteria on Saturday, June 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. $10 registration fee per child required. A separate $50 partial self-sustaining fee per child is required. Parent/guardian must be present to register.
For children entering grades 4 - 12 as of September 2002. Classes meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the Howitt School. Class times available at registration. Register in the high school cafeteria on Saturday, June 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. $10 registration fee per child is required. Parent/guardian must be present to register.
For boys and girls entering grades 3 - 12 as of September 2002. Location available at registration. Instruction for beginners and intermediates. Classes meet for one hour. Class times: 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 7 p.m. Session 1: June 27 - July 10, closed July 4 and 5. Session 2: July 11 - July 22. Session 3: July 23 - Aug. 1. Register in the high school cafeteria on Saturday, June 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; $20 registration fee per child/per session required. Parent/guardian must be present to register.
For boys and girls entering grades 8 - 12 as of September 2002. This volunteer program is offered to those who are interested in employment with the Farmingdale Youth Council Recreation Programs. This program is one of the pre-requisites for employment as a recreation group counselor. Participants will assist summer staff as assigned by the program/activity supervisor. Register in the high school cafeteria on Saturday, June 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; $10 registration fee required. Parent/guardian must be present to register.
These programs are provided through the Farmingdale Youth Council Summer Program, and require a fee that includes medical insurance. Registration for all self-sustaining programs is limited, and based on a first come, first served basis. Self-sustaining programs may be canceled due to insufficient registration. Self-sustaining programs include: Pre-Kindergarten (entering kindergarten in September 2002), Computer Clinic at Saltzman E. Memorial for (grades 3 - 7 as of September) during the week of July 29 through Aug. 2, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and a Music Program (grades 4, 5, 6 and 7 for experienced band and string players). Meeting dates for music are Monday, July 8 through Thursday, July 11 and July 15 through July 18. Sessions are 9:30 to 11 a.m. or 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. (Sessions are determined by the instrument played.)
