With the start of the much anticipated US Open just around the corner, many local residents have been anxious regarding local road closings and limited accessibility around the community. The Village of Farmingdale has sent all residents in Farmingdale a helpful guide which will help residents move about the village while the event is held at Bethpage State Park from Monday, June 10 through Sunday, June 16.

Parking permit stickers will be mailed to each residence. Residents are asked to place them on the front driver's side bumper of the cars registered to their household, as only vehicles with stickers will be allowed to park on the street. Others will be subject to fines and towing. The stickers will also allow passage through areas restricted to residents only. Residents who need more permits may visit Village Hall on Main Street. They will be asked to show registrations for the cars using the stickers plus the registration of any additional vehicle that needs a permit.

Residents are asked to try to avoid traveling in the north end of the village. There will be fewer metered parking spaces and a lot of congestion at the Farmingdale train station. Those commuting on the LIRR are asked to try to avoid using the Farmingdale station. Otherwise, plan to walk there or get dropped off and picked up. The station is the official stop of the US Open and it is where ticket holders will board buses to go to the event. Round Swamp Road will be closed from Bethpage Road to Winding Road 24 hours.

All entrances to Bethpage State Park will be closed 24 hours. Bethpage State Parkway will be closed from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Melville Road westbound from the SUNY Farmingdale entrance to Powell Place will be accessible only to local residents from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Powell Place, Bethpage Road and Quaker Meeting House Road will be accessible only to local residents from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Only local residents will be permitted to enter Thomas Powell Boulevard, Holly Avenue and Hill Road from Merritt Road. Only local residents will be permitted to enter Puritan Lane from Quaker Meeting House Road. Only local residents will be permitted to enter Thomas Powell Boulevard, Yoakum Street, Lenox Road, Anita Place, Main Street and Barberry Court from Powell Place and Bethpage Road. Only local residents will be permitted to enter Balcom Road from Melville Road.

Residents are urged to check local traffic reports for road closings and restrictions in areas outside the village. Place garbage curbside by 8 p.m. Monday and Thursday for nighttime pick-up. Residents south of Conklin Street should put out recyclables by 8 p.m. Wednesday for nighttime pick-up. Those north of Conklin Street should do so by 8 p.m. Thursday.

Residents are also urged to plan accordingly if they are having guests. Remember, June 16 is Father's Day.

Any residents who are ticket holders are permitted to walk to the event.

Any residents who need to get in touch with village code enforcement officials during this period, including the weekend, please call 294-0093 ext. 221. Someone will be there to help.

"Although you might be somewhat inconvenienced during this time, please keep in mind that these restrictions are being put in place in the best interest of public safety," stated Mayor Joseph M. Trudden. " Please do your part by being patient and cooperative."
