Barco got off to a terrific start for the new season with an 8-run 1st inning, leading to a 16-8 victory over Moby Drugs. Leading the offense were Bill "Ace" White, Kevin Moloney and Bill Stack (among many). But the key for Barco was their defense; turning 4 double plays and having terrific plays turned in by Tom Burke, Kevin Moloney and Rick Pedone, which kept Moby from putting up big numbers. Best wishes and a fast recovery go out to Terry McPartland, who was to have his knee "scoped" on Monday. It'll be a lot quieter (and less barbs) on the bench for a few weeks, enjoy it guys.
Moby managed only 13 hits losing to Barco by the score of 16-8. The team welcomed back Walter Celenski and would like to wish Bob Ceriello good luck on his new team, Morgan B's.

Rich Degroff had 2 clutch hits and 3 RBIs and Joe Cipolla added 2 hits and 2 RBIs.
For Team Synergy, John Cernuto opened the season by going 4 for 4 and 1 RBI. Mike Muscara swung his new bat for a two-run homer in his first swing of the season. Despite the outstanding play at shortstop and second base and the excellent pitching of our new player, Charlie Arbia, Darien Press defeated Synergy by a score of 11-3.
Mers Ale House opened with an excellent win over Morgan B's 14-9. Ed Healy struck the big offensive blow with a huge three-run homerun deep into the left field darkness. George Cohan, who unsuccessfully attempted to run through the backstop forcing him to sit the next inning, crushed a homerun over the 60-foot center field fence the next time up. Cohan and Jim Feliccia both went 4 for 4 with two RBIs. Gary DiApice was 3 for 4 while Tom Vella and Joe Girimonte were 2 for 4. The Mers defense was superb. Rookie Kevin Brosnan made a spectacular diving catch of a sure extra base hit terminating a Morgan rally. The infield turned a number of double plays with Healy, Cohan, and Girimonte playing very solidly behind pitcher Joe Fanning who started the game ending double play.
Granny O'Shea's played a tight, fast paced game against Changing Times Pub, with the victory going to O'Shea's 7-6. In the tenth inning John Streich punched a single to earn the game winning RBI. Tom Lanney played an outstanding first base in his debut.
Changing Times, in the loss, had a fine performance by Ed Cullen at short and a good pitching job by new pitcher Danny Haas. Al Palleschi had a perfect day at bat.
