In Farmingdale, the football tradition is tremendous. The school teams at all grade levels are reputed as powerhouses, with the varsity team recently capturing their first ever Long Island Championship. There have even been Farmingdale natives who transcended to the NFL. With all this, its understandable that the youth of the town are eager to get in on the action and propel Farmingdale's reputation into the next millennium. Fortunately, the newly founded Farmingdale Titans provide all youth with equal opportunities and a fair share of their time to shine.
The league was founded by Bob Thompson. He believes that, "when given a chance to play, all kids will excel to the best of their ability." He sought to provide an alternative organization for kids to the Farmingdale Hawks organization, and did so with the help of 22 parents who wanted their kids to experience football at the height of its fairness. In this league, kids receive equal playing time, regardless of their athletic ability. Don't think that this league is a scrubs playground, these kids have talent. They currently play in the Suffolk County PAL against top quality teams like Huntington, East Islip, West Islip , Sayville and South Shore.
The league is looking to extend its range of competition. This will only happen with increased support and enrollment. So if you have children or know kids who want to play unadulterated and innovative football, let them know that the Titans registration is Saturday, March 9, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Howitt Junior High's East Cafeteria. Sign up, and don't miss out on the action!
