New Island Hospital Opens New Buildings
On Nov. 19, New Island Hospital unveiled two new buildings that enlarged its patient treatment areas by approximately 75 percent. The new buildings, which have been in the works for the past two years, will help the hospital serve more patients as the expansion includes a new emergency room, ambulatory surgery center, endoscopy center and a surgical suite of seven state-of-the-art operating rooms and 36 new medical/surgical patient care beds.
Liberty Site Update
The next meeting of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regarding the Liberty Industrial Finishing Superfund Site in Farmingdale has been scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 9 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Farmingdale Public Library on Merritts Road in Farmingdale. The meeting, a public availability session, was originally scheduled to take place in mid-September but was postponed due to the Sept. 11 attacks.
Farmingdale Hawks Win Championship Game
The Farmingdale Hawks 12-year-old team defeated the Massapequa Mustangs 7-6 in a come from behind victory in the championship game at Newbridge Rd Park on Nov. 18.To qualify for the Super Bowl, the Hawks also had to come from behind to beat the Hempstead Tigers the week before 21-6 in the semi -finals. The Hawks had lost to both teams during the regular season but refused to lose a second time.
Dalers Defeat Freeport Red Devils
Last Saturday, the Dalers of Farmingdale defeated the Freeport Red Devils 13-6 to win the Nassau County Conference I Championship. Freeport was the defending Long Island Champions and had a 20-game winning streak going into the game. Farmingdale will play for the Long Island Championship this Saturday at Hofstra at 4:30 vs. undefeated Suffolk County Champion William Floyd. All are invited to come and cheer on their home team.
