The Farmingdale Dalers High School Junior Varsity Football Team completed an undefeated season with an exciting 14-6 victory over the previously unbeaten Freeport Red Devils last Thursday night under the lights at the Don Snyder High School football field.

The JV Dalers finished the season with an unblemished 8-0 record. The final game against Freeport (7-1) culminated in an outstanding year for the team. The game was highly anticipated by both teams since neither had tasted defeat throughout the season.

Freeport received the opening kickoff and had a big return to the Dalers 47-yard line. Then on the first play of the game the Red Devils shocked the Daler defense and fans. They opened up with double flanking wide receivers on both sides who ran in patterns, sucking the Daler defense into the middle and their halfback sprinted around the right side untouched for a 47-yard touchdown run. Freeport then went for two points but were stuffed by the Dalers defense. Freeport led 6-0 after only one minute of play.

The rest of the half was a hard-hitting defensive struggle with neither team able to break loose. A key interception was made by Ryan Milford to stop one Freeport drive. Then with under three minutes left in the half, the Dalers drove down to the Red Devils 14-yard line with only seconds to play. The Dalers called time out. On the next play, QB David Probst threw a touchdown pass to tight end Anthony Camacho to tie the game! Joe Zucchero then kicked the point after to put the Dalers ahead 7-6!

The second half was also a hard-hitting game with both teams unable to mount a consistent drive. Behind some solid blocking by the offensive line (Chris Ball, Brian McPartland, Bob Herms, Billy Dessel and Sean Ryan) and tough running by the "Daler" backs ( Zucchero, Travis Filosa, Nakyle Bethay and Josh Sutherland) Farmingdale drove down to the Red Devils 28-yard line where they faced a 4th and 14. Probst then threw a TD pass to wide receiver Charles Ross to put the Dalers up 13-5! Zucchero added the extra point to make it 14-6.

The Farmingdale defense then took over to seal the win giving Freeport their only loss of the year! Tough defensive plays were made by the whole Daler defense. Other key defensive plays in the game were made by Bethay, Camacho, Filosa, Milford, Ross, Sutherland, Zucchero and Ryan Bagnasco.

Strong performances were given this season by running backs Zucchero, who approached 1,000 yards rushing for the season, Filosa, Bethay, Sutherland, David Garces, QB Probst and receivers Ross, Scrimo and Camacho.

Dominating on both the offensive and defensive lines were Ball, Herms, Dessel, Ryan, McPartland, Sal Rabie and Nick Hecht.

Also contributing to the undefeated season were Jared Adams, Michael Berger, Ryan Ackerman, Mike Mianulli, Mike Alpern, Paul Janoscak, Joe Bruno, Matt Bullen, Rocco Capobianco, David Desimone, Robert Maksym, John Cinelli, Joe Cassone, Stephen Coulasz, Anthony Scrimo, Joe Hudson and Mike Hillier.

Congratulations to the JV team and their coaches, Head Coach Mike Hungerford and assistant coaches Walt Henning and Jim Pastier.
