Rain couldn't dampen the spirits - or the skills - of the Farmingdale Wolves on November 3 as the boys' U-10 travel soccer team scored a decisive victory over the Bethpage Kickers.
While the final score was 2 - 1, the Wolves dominated the game from the start. With Christopher Leo in goal, Brandon Veracka scored early in the first half off a pass by Thomas Esposito. Veracka took over goalkeeping duties in the second half.
Both goalies were expertly assisted by defenders Peter Thompson, Robert Godas and Jonathan Delmore, with Delmore's massive "boots" reaching the Wolves' goal time and again. The Kickers' only goal came in the second half, off a direct kick taken just outside of the penalty area.
But the Wolves continued to outplay their competition, with Esposito scoring the game-winning goal within minutes. He was part of the Farmingdale team's strong offense, including midfielders Zachary Wetzel, Matthew Ward, Jonathan Lyons, Joe Kennedy and Cody Chuchul and forwards Nicholas Casey and Christopher Pendergast. Although some tough goalkeeping - and tough breaks - kept Pendergast from scoring, he racked up the most shots on goal for the Wolves during the game (and the most mud on his uniform).
Coaches Peter Chuchul and Chris Pendergast congratulate all the boys on a game well-played and thank all the parents for their continued support and enthusiasm.
