The Sons of Italy-Columbus Lodge #2143 recently announced that their annual blood drive will be held on Thursday, Nov. 16 at the Columbus Lodge building, which is located at 2143 Boundry Avenue/North Broadway in South Farmingdale (behind the Stuart Thomas Manor). The drive will take place from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and all participants will receive a roast beef dinner.
According to Columbus Lodge Blood Drive Chairman Frank DiFazio, because of the World Trade Center tragedy, many people stepped up and donated blood. However, because the life of the blood is limited and because of restrictions being placed on importing blood from abroad, many surrounding hospitals fear our supply will reach dangerously low levels over the next couple of months.
"There is a great need for blood in our community," said DiFazio. "A life may depend on a single pint!" The Columbus Lodge members urge all Farmingdale and neighboring residents, family and friends to take part in the blood drive. After the donation, food and drink will be prepared by Chef Vincent DeRosa, a Farmingdale resident, and served by members of the Columbus Lodge #2143, a not-for-profit fraternal organization.
For further information on donating blood, one may contact Chairman Frank DiFazio or Co-chairman Joe Burmudez during the day at 293-8545 or in the evening at 249-8882. The Columbus Lodge is a not-for-profit, fraternal organization and member of the Order Sons of Italy in America. The Lodge offers its members various social and recreational activities, as well as community and charity involvement. For information on becoming a member of this organization, one may contact Pete Gisonda at 798-3972.
