In week three, two consistent powerhouses of Conference I collided: Farmingdale and Massapequa. Whether it be football or any other area of competition, there is always a spirited battle to be found between the two rivals. It was no different on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m., at Massapequa High School. The teams had completely inverse records, with Farmingdale at 2-0, and the Chiefs at 0-2. Some may have thought that the bad fortune that Massapequa had experienced in the first two weeks hinted toward weakness or a lack of talent. However, any spectator of the contest would quickly learn that the desperate team was ready to go all out in a rivalry that transcends the spectacle of high school football itself.

The Dalers won the ball in the opening toss, and the special teams flanked out onto the field. The game's opening kickoff was boomed through the end zone for a touchback. On the opening drive, the Dalers managed to fight through a fresh Massapequa defense. The 80-yard drive was capped off by a bruising 5-yard run by Rob Bonaguoro. The quarter continued, and the struggle became more violent. Tempers flared, and the Dalers picked up two early unsportsman-like conduct penalties. Though the Daler staff wasn't pleased with the infractions, such occurrences are expected in such heated competition. As the action persisted, the first quarter ended with the Dalers up 6-0.

The second quarter started and both teams picked up where they left off. The Farmingdale defensive line, led by Rob Romano, who finished the game with 6 tackles and 2 sacks, attacked the Massapequa offense. When the Chief quarterback set up for a pass, he was often greeted by the determined mugs of Rob Romano, Michael Munroe, Randy Earle, and Yinka Bosede consistently. As a result of the constant aggression of the front four on the Farmingdale defense, the visiting team closed the game with 4 sacks. Though tenacious, the Daler defense is vulnerable like any other. Massapequa exploited the weaknesses of Farmingdale, and scored their first points of the game. Not only were they the first points of the game, the six points symbolized the first touchdown allowed by Farmingdale. The Dalers, however, fought through the Chief offensive line, led by Yinka Bosede, and blocked the PAT attempt. The half ended, with the game at a 6-6 tie.

With the commencing of the second half, the tension heightened. It was foreseeable to all that the team that played to the end of the whistle, attacked relentlessly, and was a little bit luckier, would be the victor. Massapequa received the ball first, and they were forced to punt. The Farmingdale offense took the field, but was also forced to punt. The intense and strong rivalry was greater than the hype, and this truth was prevailing, as both teams knocked heads, neither forfeiting any ground. However, the Dalers put together a strong drive, and ended the third quarter in close pursuit of another score.

As the referee blew his whistle to signal the start of the forth and final quarter, the two teams prepared for the final standoff. The Dalers finished the long drive with their second touchdown of the game. Two attempted a two-point conversion, and were successful, making the score 14-6 Farmingdale. From then on, the defenses of both teams dominated, not allowing any points. Conclusively, the Dalers ended the contest, and pulled away for the win. Brendan Scankandi's interception return for a touchdown sealed the game. Matt Danowski led the team to victory with 116 yards on the ground, followed by Rob Bonaguoro, who ran for 49 yards.
