As Chief of the Farmingdale Fire Department, I wish to express my gratitude to all the residents who have come forward during these very trying times. As you know, we laid to rest Chief Pete Ganci of the FDNY recently and the people of this community responded with kindness, sympathy and donations. However, I must tell you the donations that have touched me the most have come from our children. I have several plastic bottles, cans and envelopes in my office that I am going to be turning over to the Red Cross Victims Fund. These donations have come from lemonade stands, classmates and piggy banks. Just this Sunday a child showed up at the fire house to give more to the cause.

When I heard of America's resolve or determination to overcome this vicious and cowardly act, I think of these kids. They give willingly for something they probably don't fully understand, but know that people need help. Everyone should take heart from this and know that with children like this we can overcome anything.

On behalf of the Farmingdale Fire Department I thank all the residents who have helped at this crucial time but, most of all, the children of our community.

Scott Lorenzen

Chief

Farmingdale Fire Dept.
