Sports Radio Network (WSRN) has announced that they will be adding the High School Football Game of the Week to its fall schedule. The upcoming schedule will feature teams from Section VIII in Nassau County. The Internet-based station will debut The Game of the Week on Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. with a rematch of the 2000 Nassau County Conference I Championship Game pitting Farmingdale and Freeport.
WSRN's coverage will include the webcasting of 12 regular season games, including nine Saturday afternoon webcasts and three Friday night specials. The webcasts will be presented live and exclusively on the Internet, can either be accessed from Sports Radio Network's web site http://www.sportsradionet.com or from http://www.sportsjuice.com. Affiliated with over 30 professional, college and high school teams,
Sportsjuice.com is the leader in sports webcasting.
"I am extremely excited about this announcement, " said play-by-play announcer and WSRN's CEO Rob Goldenberg. "The addition of The High School Football Game of the Week not only solidifies our fall schedule but reinforces our commitment to community sports."
The High School Football Game of the Week will feature Goldenberg and color analyst Alon Avital behind the microphone. The pair recently reunited to webcast the Long Island Surf of the United States Basketball League after working together to broadcast Nassau Community College Lion Football on WHPC and the first ever New York State High School Football Championship in 1992.
"With an opportunity to cover high school football in Nassau County, hopefully these athletes will get their deserved notoriety," Avital said. WSRN, which is attempting to capitalize on the growing popularity of web-based sports programming, already holds the exclusive broadcast rights to the United States Basketball League's (USBL) Long Island Surf. Last season, WSRN webcasted 13 regular season games and presented exclusive live coverage of the 2001 USBL Championship tournament from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Additionally, WSRN maintains the Surf's official team web site http://www.longislandsurfonline.com.
"So far the response to this medium has been extremely positive," Andrew Scott, the networks Marketing and Communications director, said.
Dedicated to the production and broadcasting of high quality live sporting events and other sports entertainment, Sports Radio Network is unique in that it targets local professional and high school teams that have limited radio or television exposure.
"I feel that there is a legitimate niche that we can fill especially in the
New York area where there are so many professional sports teams. There is a crowded radio and television schedule already, but that doesn't diminish the interest in some of the teams that don't get as much publicity as the big boys do," Goldenberg said.
With the rights to the USBL's Long Island Surf already in place and the recently added High School Football Game of the Week ready to commence, WSRN is primed to makes its mark within sports webcasting. Sports Radio Network expects to announce a live sports call-in show sometime in the fall of 2001 or in early 2002.
