The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced its proposed deletion of the Tronic Plating Company Superfund Site from the National Priorities List (NPL). The EPA is requesting public comment on this decision, and has said that the decision to delete the site from the list does not preclude future actions under Superfund. Sites delisted from the NPL remain eligible for remedial actions in the unlikely event that conditions at the site warrant such action.
In conjunction with New York State, the EPA has determined that all appropriate removal action activities have been successfully implemented at the site and that no further response actions are necessary. In addition, the EPA has determined that the remedy is protective of human health, welfare and the environment. Since no human health risk is present at the site, as determined by several EPA investigations, they deemed it unnecessary to keep the site on the list.
The comment period regarding the removal of the site from the NPL will end on Sept. 13. The EPA is asking residents to address their comments, which must be postmarked no later than Sept. 13, to Gloria M. Sosa, US Environment Protection Agency, 290 Broadway, 20th Floor, New York NY 10007-1866. Written comments may also be faxed to Sosa at 212-637-4284. Oral comments should be directed to Ms. Sosa at 212-637-4283.
The EPA will accept and evaluate all public comments before making a final decision to delete the site from the list.
