The EPA recently announced its proposed deletion of the Liberty Site from the National Priorities List (NPL) and requests public comment on the decision. The decision to delete the site from the list does not preclude future actions under Superfund. Sites delisted from the NPL remain eligible for remedial actions in the unlikely event that conditions at the site warrant such action.
The EPA, in conjunction with the State of New York, has determined that all appropriate removal action activities have been successfully implemented at the site and that no further response actions are necessary. EPA has also determined that the remedy is protective of human health, welfare and the environment.
The public is invited to comment of the proposed decision to delete the site from the NPL. The comment period will end on Sept. 13. Written comments must be postmarked no later than Sept. 13 and should be addressed to:
Gloria M. Sosa
US Environment Protection Agency
290 Broadway, 20th Floor
New York NY 10007-1866
Written comments may also be faxed to Sosa at 212-637-4284. Oral comments should be directed to Ms. Sosa at 212-637-4283. A local repository has been established to provide detailed information concerning the Liberty Site at the Farmingdale Public Library.
The EPA will accept and evaluate all public comments before making a final decision to delete the site from the list.
