Democratic County Exec Candidates Debate Issues
New York State Assemblyman Thomas DiNapoli and Glen Cove Mayor Thomas Suozzi, Democratic candidates for Nassau County executive, squared off on Monday night in the first of three debates sponsored by the League of Women Voters.
TOB Board Approves SEA Bond Committee Recommendations
The Oyster Bay Town Board voted unanimously at its July 31 meeting to adopt the first round of the recommendations by the Save Environmental Assets (SEA) Bond Committee for the expenditure of $20 million in Environmental Bond Funds for the acquisition and preservation of open space for active and passive parks and recreational uses.
FBLI Presents Thomas Fusaro Award
Farmingdale Baseball plans to give two sportsmanship awards at their September meeting. One will be awarded to an adult volunteer in the organization and the other, along with a $100 bond to a player in one of the FBLI leagues. The awards will be given in memory of Thomas Fusaro, who passed away suddenly in December. Fusaro spent many hours working with the youth of Farmingdale and served as both coach and treasurer in Farmingdale Baseball. Any residents who know of somebody deserving of these awards may pick up an application at the FBLI shack at 34D Hempstead Tpke. Nominees should be currently active as a player or volunteer this season. Applications are due at the shack by Aug. 17.
Boys and girls ages 6 through 18 (1st to 12th grade) who possess a swimming ability and desire to improve their skills are invited to tryout to be part of the United States Swim Program (Farmingdale Swim Club). Competition within the metropolitan area in the club's age group program is an ongoing activity throughout the year. Their program includes stroke correction and dry lands under a professional coaching staff.
