SMA Charity Softball Game a Success
Members of the Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) chapter of New York, which consists of many families from Farmingdale who have children who are victims of the disease, recently sponsored their fifth annual Charity Softball Challenge on Sunday, July 29 at Firemen's Park in Lindenhurst in an effort to promote awareness of the disease and raise money in hopes of a cure.
EPA Issues Proposed Plan for Liberty Site
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently issued its Proposed Cleanup Plan regarding cleanup to be done at the Liberty Industrial Site in Farmingdale.
Over the Hill Gang Report
Barco edged into first place with their 26 to 6 victory over M&T. Sterling defensive plays by Kevin Maloney, Scott Golden and Tom Burke were keys for Barco, defusing M&T rallies when the game was still close. Barco's bats took over later in the game, scoring 24 runs in the final four innings. The offense had plenty of heroes; notably Bob "Woody" Diamond, Jeff Elie, Kevin Maloney, Bill Stack and Bill "Ace" White with multiple/extra base hit games. The long ball was provided by Terry McPartland, Steve Schwind and Gary Jambor (2). And, yes Terry, I'll even mention my called third strike, just call me "I was just trying to draw them in" Jambor.
Columbus Lodge and Freeport Battle on Softball Field
Last Sunday, the Nassau Conference Men's League held one of its more significant regular season games as the first place Freeport Dirty Dozen defeated the second place Sons of Italy-Columbus Lodge #2143 Golden Lions 24-23, in extra innings. "This was a great game to watch," observed Columbus Lodge's Frank Curran.
