Since the law I authored creating New York State's Telemarketer "Do Not Call" Registry was enacted, 1.7 million consumers have added their names to the registry to stop telemarketers from calling their homes.

Telemarketers selling goods and services are required to obtain the "Do Not Call" Registry from the New York State Consumer Protection Board on a quarterly basis (January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1). Thirty days after each quarter, a telemarketer is prohibited from calling any consumer on the registry and faces fines of up to $2,000 per violation. If a registered consumer believes a telemarketer has called in violation of the law, complaints may be filed by contacting the Consumer Protection Board at 1-800-NYS-1220 or by visiting www.consumer.state.ny.us.

Any resident that has not yet added their name to the "Do Not Call" Registry can do so by calling my office at 546-4100 or by visiting WWW.SENATORFUSCHILLO.COM.

Charles J. Fuschillo Jr.

New York State Senator
