The 10th annual Salomon Smith Barney North American Wheelchair Championship Race made its debut this year as a memorial race in honor of the late wheelchair athletics activist Nick Katsounis.
Pop's Park Dedication Honors James Sabellico
Last Sunday, July 1, residents, families, friends, local officials and children of Farmingdale baseball gathered at the dedication ceremony of Pop's Park on Merritts Road in Farmingdale to honor the life of James "Pop" Sabellico.
Charity Softball Begins for Columbus Lodge
Giving back to their community, Columbus Lodge #2143 Golden Lions began a month of softball fund-raising events with an impressive showing at the "4th Annual Sons of Italy Softball Tournament," held for the benefit of the Arthritis Foundation of Long Island. The June 9 event saw the Golden Lions impressively reach the finals before losing to the team from the accounting firm of KPMG.
Successful Season for Wizards
The Farmingdale Wizards enjoyed a successful 2001 spring season. These 12-year-old boys, led by coaches Oscar Salguero and Bill Horn, came together as a team to post a record of 6-2-1. The team also had a successful run in the Waldbaums Cup where four consecutive wins earned them a spot in the semifinals played at Mitchel Field in Uniondale.
