On Sunday, June 10 The Farmingdale Force girls U-15 Travel soccer team defeated the Babylon Express (3-1) running their unbeaten streak to 16 (over 2 seasons) but more importantly clinching the division 5 championship. The game was a re-match of the April contest which resulted in a (2-2) tie and the winner would clinch the division title. Babylon opened the scoring in the first half with a goal scored on a powerful shot from the opponent's right wing position. The Force bounced back when center half Jenna Leite took a pass from halfback Carrie Claps, caught the Babylon goalie out of position, dribbled around her and put in a beautiful crossing shot into the left hand corner of the net. The half ended in a (1-1) tie. In the second half Farmingdale started to exert its dominance by putting great offensive pressure on the Babylon team. Coming close to scoring on several excellent corner kicks Erin Chernow broke through when (1) of her corner kicks was deflected off the Babylon goalie and went into the net putting Farmingdale ahead (2-1). The Force scored their final goal, the second of the day by Jenna Leite, on a crossing shot also from the left side with an assist from Marie Bell. The defense, anchored by Erin Chernow, Marie Bell, Kelly Marmo, Katie Blackman and Laura Napoli in addition to outstanding goaltending by Jillian Comuniello did the rest by shutting out Babylon the entire second half helping to clinch the victory. Forwards and midfielders Jessica Miller, Katie Palmer, Carrie Claps, Tracy Barnett, Niti Misra, Ashley Mantooth, Gina Mastadino and Gabrielle Frawley continuously came up with big plays on both sides of the ball. This is Farmingdale Forces' first division title since the team was formed back in '97 and their best season ever. With a record of 8 wins and 1 tie The Force hoped to complete their undefeated season with a victory against Glen Cove which would have been a great Father's Day gift for all the team dads, but the girls were unfortunately rained out.

Congratulations to the entire team for all the hard work they put in to this outstanding season from coach Nick and assistant coaches Gail Mantooth, Lou Bell and all the parents. Special recognition to Ashley Mantooth, Gabrielle Frawley, Laura Napoli, Gina Mastadino, Katie Blackman , Jessica Miller and Katie Palmer who were members of the original team back in '97 most of which (Palmer's here for good now...) stuck with team throughout all the (8) seasons. The same for Marie Bell and Tania Vavilis who completed their 6th season with the team. The division title took a long time in coming was enjoyed by all but was especially sweet for all the girls (and coaches) who were there at the beginning.
