FBHS Looks to Restore Bethpage Cemetery
The Bethpage Cemetery, located directly across the street from an entrance to Bethpage State Park's golf courses and restaurant, has fallen into a state of neglect in recent years. Among the problems occurring at the cemetery are an uncontrolled amount of tree growth, and dead trees, plants, shrubbery and other foliage that have not been cleaned up and properly disposed.
Farmingdale Site Closed, Workers Search for Alternate Location
In recent weeks, several residents in Farmingdale have mentioned that the City of Glen Cove should serve as a model for their own neighborhood. After the village decided to close the day laborers site on Elizabeth and Front Streets in Farmingdale, Village Mayor Joseph Trudden said that he will continue to do everything he can to help the laborers find an alternate location to congregate.
Farmingdale Force "Sweet 16" and Division Champs
On Sunday, June 10 The Farmingdale Force girls U-15 Travel soccer team defeated the Babylon Express (3-1) running their unbeaten streak to 16 (over 2 seasons) but more importantly clinching the division 5 championship. The game was a re-match of the April contest which resulted in a (2-2) tie and the winner would clinch the division title. Babylon opened the scoring in the first half with a goal scored on a powerful shot from the opponent's right wing position. The Force bounced back when center half Jenna Leite took a pass from halfback Carrie Claps, caught the Babylon goalie out of position, dribbled around her and put in a beautiful crossing shot into the left hand corner of the net. The half ended in a (1-1) tie.
Rockies Win Girls Jr. Division
The Rockies of the Farmingdale Baseball League Girls Softball Junior Division ages 10 through 13 ended the 2001 season in first place with a record of 11-3-1. The girls then continued their outstanding team effort by defeating the Red Sox 19-7 to win the championship playoffs for the year.
