The Farmingdale PAL 7th and 8th grade conference A girls lacrosse team, that plays in the LI Sr. Girls Youth Lacrosse League, brought their undefeated record of 7-0 to Saltzman East Memorial on Saturday to play the undefeated Garden City team, with their record of 6-0-1, in a battle of Titans. Both teams have proved to be the best jr. high school age team in the county.

Farmingdale started the scoring just 35 seconds into the game when Vicki Fanslow found an open Tricia Santorelli in front of the goal for the early 1-0 lead. GC answered with the next 2 goals before Melissa Pan found a cutting Megan White who tied the score. This battle continued with both teams alternating goals. Jenna Celano scored on a pass from Stacey McPartland and then Kari Ann Rotkin took a pass from Celano to score coming around the net. Farmingdale took the lead at 5-4 when Santorelli scored an unassisted goal. GC scored the next 3 goals giving them a 2 goal lead with 2 minutes remaining in the 1st half. The GC lead was then cut back to 1 when Jessica Carvo picked up a loose ball in the Farmingdale defensive zone and raced down the field to hit Pan with a pass for the final goal of the 1st half.

The girls opened the scoring in the 2nd half when Kian Lyons went in to score the tying goal. The goal exchange between the two teams continued. Ryann Quinn and Terri Ann Beier scored goals and Meg White scored her 2nd of the game to tie the score again with 12 minutes left. Defensive lapses then allowed GC to score the next 2 goals. Kim Miller made a pass to Pan, which cut the GC lead to1 at 13-12. After GC scored their 14th goal to go ahead by 2, Pan and White each hit the goal post with under 2 minutes remaining as GC pulled out the victory.

Also contributing to an outstanding offensive effort were Courtney Cullen, Ali Lauterborn, Michelle Maier, Samantha Petro, Christine Pullen and Katie Dorso. Vicki Fanslow, Jessica Carvo, Maggie Grubb, Erica Masci, Kian Lyons, Nicole Juray and Justine Galgano led the defensive effort. Once again the goalies, Colleen Magri and Megan Hardgrove kept the game close, each making great saves.

The coaches from both teams believed that this last game of the season would determine the league championship, which it did. Although GC claimed the championship, the Farmingdale girls were able to hold their heads high. The coaches are extremely proud of the players and the effort they put in all season long. They would like to congratulate the players for a great season and look forward to next year.

The Farmingdale PAL sixth grade girls team ended their season undefeated with an 8-0 win over Hicksville. They finished with a record of 7 wins, 0 losses and 1 tie, outscoring their opponents 76 to 41.

The scoring in this game, like every other, was a team effort. Kristin Jones again led the assault winning all of the center draws while scoring a goal and registering 2 assists. Brittany White, Kristen DiLiello and Jillian Cerar each had 2 goals. DiLiello had 2 assists and Cerar had 1. Stephanie Butler scored a goal and Ashley Mesiiti, Nicole Prechtl and Melissa Crow each had 1 assist.

The defense, led by Crow, Butler and Amanda Dorsey, dominated the game by shutting out their opponent. The goaltender, Patricia Draghi and Brenna Dugan, shared the shutout with each girl making numerous saves. Some of the girls played both offense and defense this year and were led by Erin Forstrom, Claire Blackmore and Courtney Norman, who as a 1st year player had a tremendous season. Kiera Murphy had her best game with some great runs on offense to help the game in Farmingdale's favor. Jenna Block missed the game due to family obligations.

All the girls had a great year and played like a group of seasoned veterans. Coaches Tim Jones, Tom White and Greg DiLiello are extremely proud of the girls undefeated and 1st place finish.

The Farmingdale PAL 4th grade team finished in 2nd place with a 7-14 record and the 3rd grade team currently has a 4-3 record with 1 game remaining. The 5th grade team was rained out.

The annual Farmingdale PAL Lacrosse Awards barbecue will be held on Monday, June 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Marjorie Post Park.
