William J. Schmidt, a longtime resident of Bethpage, died after a brief illness, on April 9, 2001. He was retired from Con Edison after 43 years of employment. Mr. Schmidt served as a guard in the US Army while stationed in Germany during the Nuremberg Trials. He was a dedicated parishioner and usher at St. Martin of Tours RC Church for more than 30 years. He was a member of Rev. Michael J. Hartigan K of C #5033, Fourth Degree member of Pope John XXIII Assembly and a member of VFW Post #4987. Brother of Rosemary Schmidt, Mary Staudermann, Julie Gerrish and Robert Schmidt. Brother-in-law of Phil Staudermann, George Gerrish and Patricia Schmidt and Ann Schmidt.
