William J. Schmidt, a longtime resident of Bethpage, died after a brief illness, on April 9, 2001. He was retired from Con Edison after 43 years of employment. Mr. Schmidt served as a guard in the US Army while stationed in Germany during the Nuremberg Trials. He was a dedicated parishioner and usher at St. Martin of Tours RC Church for more than 30 years. He was a member of Rev. Michael J. Hartigan K of C #5033, Fourth Degree member of Pope John XXIII Assembly and a member of VFW Post #4987. Brother of Rosemary Schmidt, Mary Staudermann, Julie Gerrish and Robert Schmidt. Brother-in-law of Phil Staudermann, George Gerrish and Patricia Schmidt and Ann Schmidt. Uncle of many nieces and nephews. William was a kind, good man who will be greatly missed by his many friends and family members. Arrangements were made by the Arthur F. White Funeral Home. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles "Chick", and their sons, Private Richard L. Moesch (Korea) and John "Jackie" Moesch. Mother of Charles (Eleanor) Moesch of Prattsburgh, NY, and Elaine (Philip) Krawchuk of Bethpage. Sister of Helen Hager of Setauket, Ann Neumeyer of Connecticut and Harold Neder of Texas. Grandmother of Andrew, William, David, Philip, Jeanne and Carrie. Great-grandmother of Ryan, Anthony, Johnny, Andrew, Derek and Daniel. Mary will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
