Over the next decade, more than one-half of New York's 250,000 teachers are eligible to retire. In an effort the attract new teachers, last year I proposed "TEACH" (Teacher Enrichment and Achievement). Key elements of that plan became part of the New York State "Teachers of Tomorrow" initiative that will bring new teachers into our classrooms.

I recently unveiled TEACH-2, a complement to the initial plan. This proposal is primarily aimed at the other end of the spectrum by encouraging senior, more experienced teachers to defer their retirement and remain in the classroom where they can continue to teach and also serve as mentors to younger, less experienced colleagues.

To learn more about the TEACH-2 proposal call my office at 546-4100 or visit my website at www.senatorfuschillo.com.

Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr.
