The Farmingdale School District recently announced progress on the projects included in the bond issue that Farmingdale citizens approved last year.
Currently, construction is ongoing at Albany Avenue, Woodward Parkway, Saltzman East Memorial and Northside Elementary Schools. Additional classrooms are being built in all four elementary schools to accommodate the full day kindergarten program which is scheduled to begin in September.
Two of the elementary schools, Albany Avenue and Saltzman East Memorial, celebrated the expansion for the next school year's full day kindergarten program with groundbreaking ceremonies in November and December.
Ceremonies celebrating groundbreakings for kindergarten classroom construction at Woodward Parkway and Northside Elementary Schools are anticipated to take place sometime next month.
According to the Farmingdale School District, the State Education Department recently completed its architectural reviews for both Woodward Parkway and Northside Elementary School, and both schools are currently awaiting completion of the department's mechanical reviews. Albany Avenue is seeing the progression of masonry, plumbing and electrical work, which has also begun at Saltzman East Memorial. Construction of a new elevator has also started at Saltzman.
Work on the cafeteria roof at Howitt Middle School has also begun and repairs to the gymnasium roof are expected to begin in early March. The Farmingdale High School bond project currently under way includes the installation of construction fencing and the demolition of the existing bleachers to make room for the new exterior bleachers.
All of the above mentioned projects were approved by Farmingdale residents when they voted on passing the bond issue last year. The Farmingdale school district anticipates that the projects will be completed before the end of the school year, especially the completion of additional classroom construction at all four elementary schools.
