Richard E. Shenocker, of West Farmingdale, died on Dec. 4, 2000. Husband of the late Patricia. Father of Karen Dietz (Robert) and Richard (Christine). Grandfather of six. Madeline A. Beebe, 81, formerly of Farmingdale, died on Dec. 5, 2000. Wife of Robert. Mother of Constance Beebe, Carol Walsh (Michael) and Robert (Lucille). Grandmother of six. Joseph G. Monk, of N. Massapequa, died on Dec. 7, 2000. Husband of the late Rita F. Father of Bill, Doreen and Rita. Grandfather of three. Also survived by his brother and two sisters. Arrangements were made by the James Funeral Home, Massapequa. Funeral Mass at St. James RC Church. Interment St. Charles Cemetery.
Jake Considine, of Farmingdale, passed away on Dec. 15, 2000, with his family by his side. Born John Vincent Considine on Dec. 25, 1926 in Brooklyn, he moved to Baldwin as a child. Jake attended St. Christopher's elementary school where he met his wife of 50 years the former Eileen Hunter. After Baldwin High School, he joined the Navy stationed in the Pacific Islands during WWII. Married in 1950 the couple settled in Seaford, then moved to Farmingdale in 1955 where they raised six children.
A committed and dedicated employee for 42 years as a line foreman for NY Telephone, he will be remembered most for his dedication to his family and love for softball. Known as "Mr. Softball" Jake competed with some of the best softball players in America. Some of his highlights over his 50 years of softball were: the 1976 ASA industrial class A World Champs with the NY Telephone Islanders, the 1997 international senior softball association (ISSA) world team and in 1998 named to the world team as well as tournament MVP. He was inducted into the Metro LIASA Softball hall of fame in 1992.
In 1990 as one of the best pitchers to play the game and competing in leagues with athletes half his age, Jake always came out on top. Playing in 160 games across the country in 1999, he was still on top of his game being named MVP in several of the tournaments. In 1990 Jake was also inducted into the Baldwin H.S. hall of fame for his accomplishments on the football field.
After retiring in 1991 besides softball Jake spent his time with his wife, children and their families. A hero to his family and idolized by his peers he will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.
In addition to his wife, Jake is survived by his children, Maureen Considine of Massapequa, Michael and Patricia Considine of Wantagh, Eileen Hague of Farmingdale, Timothy and MaryEllen Considine of Massapequa Park, Kathleen McCallen of Massapequa, John and Lorri Considine of Rockville Centre; and 13 grandchildren.
