The Village of Farmingdale kicked off the 2000 holiday season with the annual lighting of the tricentennial tree on Wednesday, Dec. 6. Musical entertainment was provided by both the Farmingdale High School mixed chorus and the South Shore Brass Ensemble. Farmingdale Mayor Joseph Trudden did the honors of lighting the tree, aided by enthusiastic local children who helped him countdown to the lighting.

After nearly two decades of battling to share in county sales tax revenues, members of the Nassau County Village Officials Association (NCVOA) announced a milestone victory as the Nassau County Executive's 2001 adopted budget includes sales tax sharing for villages. The NCVOA is comprised of 64 incorporated villages in Nassau County representing nearly 450,000 residents.
