Robert Ott died on Nov. 28, 2000, after a short battle with cancer at the age of 76. He was a resident of Neptune Beach, FL, formerly of Farmingdale. He had 35 years of service with the LI State Park and Recreation Commission. He was a former superintendent of Bethpage and Jones Beach State Parks and general superintendent of LI State Parks. Husband of Ann. Father of Robert, Donald and Thomas. Brother of Marie Annino and James Ott. Grandfather of Bryan Ott, Jennifer Rushing, Stacy Ott, Michael and Jessica Ott. Vincent Valentino, of East Farmingdale, died on Nov. 29, 2000. Husband of Mollie. Glenn Albert Kerbs, 85, of Tyler Hill, PA, formerly of Farmingdale, died on Nov. 29, 2000 at the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Honesdale, PA. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Olive M. Zimmerman. The couple were married in July of 1939. Born April 12, 1915 in Hicksville, he was the son of the late William and Hermine Buck Kerbs. Glenn was a graduate of Hicksville High School and was a carpenter by trade. For 20 years he was a construction superintendent and later was a business agent for the Carpenters Union on LI until he retired after 15 years.
Glen was a member of the Farmingdale United Methodist Church and was a troop leader for 10 years in the Boy Scouts of America, Farmingdale. When he was younger he was very athletic and played semi-pro baseball and football during the Depression years. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, tending his orchard and hunting. He was active in Field Trial Beagling.
In addition to his wife, Olive, he is survived by a son, Glenn J. Kerbs of Franklin, WI, and a daughter, Paula Given of Farmingdale; two sisters, Tess Wernerberg of Florida and Ethel McGinnis of NJ; four grandchildren, Ann Kerbs, Christine Shanley, Olivia and Glenn Given; and three great-grandchildren, Sam and Karen Klein and Isabella Shanley. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Bill and Ed and one sister, Edna Kraemer.
His funeral was conducted at the Hessling Funeral Home, Honesdale with Rev. Paul Hagedorn. Interment Calkins Union Cemetery, Damascus Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the Damascus Volunteer Ambulance Corps, PO Box 63, Damascus, PA 18415.
Joseph S. Picone Sr., of Hicksville, died on Dec. 3, 2000. He was born in Brooklyn and moved to Hicksville in the early 1950s. He was founder and chairman emeritus of the Board of Directors of Joseph S. Picone and Son Inc. in East Farmingdale. As a major supplier of cement blocks and as a commercial developer of the Route 110 corridor in the Farmingdale area, he witnessed the growth from a pastoral zone to a vibrant business sector. During his stewardship he was active in many charities of the Sisters of Mercy of which his daughter, Sister Florence Picone, is the regional administrator for Catholic Charities Brooklyn East Region. He was also a former trustee of Our Lady of Mercy Church. Husband of the late Frances. Father of Bernadette Grillo, Mary Jane Long, Sister Frances Picone, RSM, Joann Gaj, Florence Policastro, Rita Iannone, Joseph Picone Jr. and Audrey Ziegler. Grandfather of 23. Great-grandfather of 13. Brother of Lean Cusano and Mary Vilagio. Uncle of many nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by the Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Home, Hicksville.
