Saltzman East Memorial Celebrates Groundbreaking Ceremony
Celebrating a school expansion to accommodate next year's full day kindergarten program, Saltzman East Memorial Elementary School held a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 22.
Farmingdale Youth Board's Big Friend Little Friend Program
Farmingdale Youth Board's Big Friend volunteers recently met for their first semiannual workshop at Annabelle Ristorante. The Big Friend program was established to provide mentor adults for youngsters from local, single parent homes in an effort to provide positive role-models. Volunteers provide recreational, cultural and social activities, such as taking youngsters to sports events, movies, or to the mall. Group activities are arranged throughout the year in which each Big Friend and their Little Friend can participate.
Lions U-12 Boys Win Division
The Plainedge Lions recently completed their fall campaign, finishing the season with an 8-1 record. The Division 2 team played a tough schedule with wins against Middle Country, Massapequa, Rockville Centre, W. Babylon, Smithtown, Hauppauge, Hicksville and Bellport. The only blemish was a 1-0 loss to Oceanside. The team scored a total of 26 goals while only giving up 10. The winning of the conference will allow the team to return to the first division. The Lions consists of Brendan Ashe, Gary Citrangola, Andres Echeverry, Peter Gomez, Eugenio Guillo, Nick Hadnagy, Matt Iulo, Danny Lo-Re, Steven Morales, Peter Ostrander, Willy Sinatra, Eric Sorto and Ricky Williamson. They were coached by Fernando Morales and Eugenio Guillo.
Stars Season Comes to Close
The St. Kilian CYO Stars played their quarter final playoff game Tuesday, Nov. 7 against St. Elizabeth, a team that finished first in their respective division with a 7-1 record. The Stars played their usual tough and inspired brilliant defensive game winning 36-33.
