Last Friday night was a grand night for the Over the Hill Gang charity tournament for Cerebral Palsy in the memory of Kenny Reynolds. We were fortunate to have fellow Farmingdaler Rob Bartlett, who took time out from his busy schedule to add his quick wit and humor as our master of ceremonies. Bartlett found special delight in wheeling his good buddy Tommy Hacket on the field to throw out the first ball.
This year's home run derby was won by Glen Olson, the smooth hitting outfielder from Mers Pub, who paid a whopping $51. The league and all their friends gave a warm testimonial to the memory of Ken Reynolds. Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto presented a proclamation to the family. Ken's brother Gary accepted, and spoke of Kenny's pride for the league and that his favorite place to be on Friday nights was Allen Park.
Moby Drugs, who defeated Morgan B's in a close 11-10 squeaker, won the final tournament game. The game became tense when they led off the ninth inning getting two men on base with none out. But a quick relay on a hit to right field gunned down the tying run at the plate. The league congratulates Moby Drugs on their tournament win as well as their first place finish in the league.
The president of Cerebral Palsy, Pat Burns with Terry Hacket and Joann Veneziano were presented a proclamation from County Legislator Sal Pontillo. But the real winners were the children and adults with Cerebral Palsy. All monies raised by this tournament went directly to the charity.
Our thanks go out to the following: Nassau County, Town of Oyster Bay and the Village of Farmingdale; Master of Ceremonies Rob Bartlett; Committee Chairman Frank Horoszewski; Cerebral Palsy President Pat Burns; Bob Bauman; Tom Camada; Rich Brancaccio; Al Palleschi; Bob Darienzo; Ed Butler; Lou Getselman; Bill Moyer; Carl Denauski; John Weber; Terry Hacket; Joann Veneziano; and Maria Ball.
