This team was recently formed and will have its inaugural travel season beginning this fall. They have competed against teams from Oceanside, Elmont and Franklin Square. Their record for the tournament's preliminary round was 3-1, with the team scoring 11 goals while only surrendering 3. The Hurricanes, however, were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by a score of 3-0.
The team had a balanced attack, with goals being scored by Joan Buczkowski, Jillian Gemma, Ariel Hornedo, Brianna Lively, Shea Macagnone, Lauren Maksym and Shannon Palmer. Valerie Campbell and Jamie McPartland played solid wings on offense, setting up key passes to their teammates. The team also played a solid defense with Natalie Amato, Danielle Chieffo, Stacy Lechawicz and Jillian Pound as fullbacks and sweeper. Goalie duties were handled by Amato, Macagnone and Mackenzie Porter.
This will be the first season that the girls will have the opportunity to play as one team. In the past, the majority of the girls played on a tournament team together, but played the regular season on different intramural teams. They have spent the summer working together in preparation of their first travel season.
On Saturday, Sept. 9, the Hurricanes played their first regular season game at home against Hicksville. They won 3-1. On Sept. 16, they played against North Shore and won 3-0, with a hat-trick by Lauren Maksym.
The team is coached by Eileen Palmer, John Palmer, John Campbell and Joseph Lively.
