It appears that my letter against the proposed moratorium on Special Ground Water Protection Area (SGPA) in the Town of Oyster Bay has been misinterpreted that I am against preserving the environment. This is hardly the case. What I am against is the way that government has a habit of making itself larger at the expense of the taxpayer.
I disagree that a moratorium is the proper way to preserve the environment. The Town of Oyster Bay has stopgaps in place to review each proposed project and then the final say is the town board's. In essence, by implanting such a moratorium, you are saying that the elected officials cannot make the decision that they are paid to do. So, we must put everything on hold for a year so that we might spend more of the taxpayers' money to hire consulting firms and some more attorneys to look at the situation. I think we must keep it simple, have an application follow its due course and then let the town board have the final say; after all that is what we are getting paid to do.
I believe that the people spoke on the last Election Day. They want their elected officials to do their job and stop the constant cycle of government spending.
