Publisher Karl. V. Anton, Jr. Dies at 81
Karl V. Anton, Jr., publisher and editor-in-chief of Anton Community Newspapers, died Saturday morning at his home in North Merrick with his wife Angela Susan Anton by his side. His death followed a short illness of cancer. He was 81 years old.

Farmingdale Finishes First in Tourney
The Farmingdale Girls' U-8 Tournament Soccer Team split into two teams and competed at the Massapequa Father's Day Soccer Tournament. Each team was placed in a highly competitive division with five other teams from Long Island. Both teams finished with three wins and two ties and won their respective divisions. "The coaches and families of the girls are extremely proud of the outstanding effort all 21 girls gave over the weekend," noted a representative of the team. "They all played as a team - go Farmingdale!"

Columbus Lodge Defeats Merrick Stixs, 20-15
The Sons of Italy-Columbus Lodge #2143 Golden Lions last week was involved in a softball slugfest with the Merrick Big Stixs at Wantagh Park. Avenging an early season loss to the Stixs, the Columbus Lodge defeated their opponent 20-15. Daron Tripoli's 5 for 5 performance, including two homeruns, led a 19 hit attack that featured six homeruns and 28 base runners for the lodge.
