John Moglia of Farmingdale has been named to the New York roster for the prestigious 2000 Governor's Bowl. One of the premier football games in the nation, the Governor's Bowl pits the preeminent high school seniors from New York against their New Jersey counterparts. Moglia and his fellow New York combatants will take on the best New Jersey has to offer on Saturday, July 8 at 4 p.m. at West Point's renowned Michie Stadium. Moglia's selection also provides an opportunity for students from Farmingdale to win the $2,500 Rittenhouse scholarship.

"We are excited to have a player of John's caliber on the team," said Joe Casarella, New York head coach. "We are confident that the Governor's Bowl will offer him his greatest football challenge to date and provide him with memories for a lifetime."

Moglia is a standout offensive lineman from Farmingdale. He is one of 50 exceptional seniors from across the state who are recognized for their outstanding play throughout the previous season. The 6' 0", 272 pounder will continue his playing career at C.W. Post in the fall.

In just two years, the Governor's Bowl All-State Classic has become recognized as the game for blue chip high school seniors in the area to display their considerable talents. The previous two games, played at Rutgers Stadium in Piscataway, NJ saw the Garden State walk away with the coveted Governor's Cup, 36-20 and 26-15, respectively. This year's game provides New York fans with their first chance to watch the game on New York soil and cheer on the home team.

Moglia's personal achievement on the football field has also provided an exciting scholarship opportunity for Farmingdale's graduating class. The Rittenhouse Academic Scholarship will be awarded to one senior in the state from among the high schools that have a player participating in the Governor's Bowl. The one-time $2,500 award will be granted to a student who plans to pursue a degree in pre-med, mathematics, or science, and has excelled both in the classroom and the community courtesy of Rittenhouse Book Distributors, Inc.
