Keeping a Check on Illegal Fireworks
This Fourth of July, Farmingdale residents didn't have to travel too far for a healthy dose of Independence Day fun. While many residents enjoyed traditional backyard barbecues, others headed for the picnic area at nearby Bethpage State Park. The more adventurous Farmingdalers joined the estimated 150,000 Long Islanders at the annual fireworks show at Jones Beach.

Columbus Lodge Prepares for Easter Seals Softball Classic
The Farmingdale/Massapequa-based Columbus Lodge #2143 softball team (The Golden Lions) this week announced that it will participate in the Easter Seals Softball Classic 2000. The Softball Classic will be held on Friday, July 28 through Sunday, July 30 at Cantiague Park in Hicksville. All proceeds will benefit the Easter Seals Society of New York.

Local Gridiron Star Named to Governor's Bowl
John Moglia of Farmingdale has been named to the New York roster for the prestigious 2000 Governor's Bowl. One of the premier football games in the nation, the Governor's Bowl pits the preeminent high school seniors from New York against their New Jersey counterparts. Moglia and his fellow New York combatants will take on the best New Jersey has to offer on Saturday, July 8 at 4 p.m. at West Point's renowned Michie Stadium. Moglia's selection also provides an opportunity for students from Farmingdale to win the $2,500 Rittenhouse scholarship.
