A thriller of a game was played between Changing Times and Barboy last week and ended in a 14-13 victory for Changing Times. Both teams hit hard and made great plays.
The game went to the 10th inning with Barboy trailing by four runs. They loaded the bases with no outs. After a walk and a hit to come within one run, there was a spectacular running catch by Bob Bischof and a fine throw to third baseman Bill Condon, who then applied the tag to complete a double play. The next batter lined a ball into the gap that was caught by a leaping John Ochwat for the game saver. Manager Jerry "Quick Feet" Iavarone hit the winning two-run homer for the Times.
Morgan B's defeated McCourt & Trudden 31-11. Both teams scored sevens runs in the first inning to get things going. Morgans had big nights at bat by Frank Ortolani, Harry Richards and rookie Al Devine. Bill Fitzpatrick and Bob Cruickshank has two-run homers each. Richie Dargie had a grand slam.
Darien Press scored a 20-9 victory over Barco Construction. Darien received solid pitching and hitting from Kris Solberg, who was 3-4. Rich Degroff was a 4-4 with a homer while Peter Mendelson and Jerry Murtha each had three hits and a homer. Rookie Joe Manning tripled to clear the bases and Bobby Schubert had three hits for RBIs.
Leading Barco was Bob Romano, who had a good night at the plate with clutch RBI producing hits.
Good team defense and hitting provided Moby Drug with a 16-8 win over Thirsty Beverage. Multiple hit nights for Don Ott (triple), Jerry Nardone (3-run homer), Chuck Isleman, John Bleck, John Kennedy, Paul Nardone and Bob Olson.
Granny O'Shea's rebounded from last week beating J-Two Lounge 16-5. Leading the way was Gary Tolp, 4-4 and 5 RBIs, John Streich, 4-4, 4 RBIs, Robby Kirk, 4-5, Pat Cavaliere, 3-4 and Jay Donavan, 3-4. "Fast Ed" Schillitto pitched a beaut.
JP's LI Grill continues to play well and lead the leagues with a 6-2 record. But their game was close, beating a fine Mers Pub team 21-19. Mike Kochen hit a 3-run homer in the bottom of the ninth with two outs for the victory. Mike Muscara hit a 2-run homer and Frank Aimetta had a key 3-run triple. All 16 players on JP's scored in the game.
