I am writing this letter to make you aware that the board of education has set June 20 for the budget re-vote. Voting will take place at the Weldon E. Howitt East Gymnasium from 6 a.m. - 9 p.m.
Please be aware that if the budget is defeated, all current programs and services will be reduced or eliminated. This includes interscholastic athletics. If the Board does decide to include athletics in its contingency budget, our teams will still be affected; use of fields and facilities will not be available over the summer without paying a fee. Equipment and supplies will be eliminated or curtailed; tournament fees, All County award functions and sports banquets will be eliminated. All in all, athletics will not be the same for your son/daughter as they have been in the past. Of even greater importance, their educational opportunities will be affected, as the district will be forced to remove about $5 million from the currently proposed budget in order to meet the capping requirement of the contingency budget.
As you can see, we cannot afford to allow this budget to be defeated. Please join us at the polls on Tuesday, June 20 with all the voting members of your family to vote "yes"!
Your son/daughter only goes through school once. All children deserve all the opportunities our district has to offer them.
