Why have we seen protesters holding placards on Conklin Street?

The reason: family values. Wives and children needing food and clothing, their shelter threatened, men unable to get employment in a time of full employment because of "code enforcement."

Most of us longtime residents of this village are descendants of Italian, Polish, and Irish immigrants who suffered scorn and prejudice in their time. We, of all people, should show solidarity with the latest victims.

I feel hopeful that our village officials, being people of conscience, will consider the needs of our new neighbors, who are ready to make a needed contribution to the local workforce. A peaceful and equitable solution is possible. Let's work together to make it happen.
