I am writing in response to Thomas J. Esposito's letter to the editor, Feb. 4. I have lived in Farmingdale since 1965 and as Mr. Esposito mentioned have continued to stay because of the area - a place to raise a family.
However, unlike Mr. Esposito I was appalled by the efforts of some in the community who would look to prevent the day laborers from finding work. All of our ancestors came to this country with the same hopes and dreams as the day laborers of today. Our families coming to this country were in the same position and it is a shame to have people now, in the 21st century, hold these same prejudices. I would also dispute the comments made by Mr. Esposito about the behavior of the day laborers. Many of these men have left families and friends behind in an effort to send money home just for the bare necessities.
Mr. Esposito says he had moved to Farmingdale for the quality of life and "nice" people. What could be more beautiful than for all in the community to experience working together to help our less fortunate brothers and sisters find work and be reunited with their families in this small town Farmingdale.
