The CYO St. Kilian Stars won their third game of the year, defeating St. Barnabus, of Sea Cliff, Sunday night on their home court 27 - 9. The Stars' record is now 3-2, coming off a loss to St. Francis in their last game.
The Stars were obviously the best team on the St. Barnabus court. Their press created many turnovers and numerous points before it was pulled off late in the second quarter. The Stars evenly distributed scoring was led by Kate Hogan's nine points. Krista Daniello scored six while Chris Tinney and Lisa Buono each scored four points apiece. Meghan Fanning and Diana Beltrani contributed two points each to round out the Stars scoring.
The Stars did an excellent job off the boards, especially the defensive boards. Tinney, Beltrani, Daniello, Fanning, Hogan and Jess Cohen led the Stars' assault by doing a great rebounding job. The Stars tough and almost impregnable zone defense limited St. Barnabus to poor shots and then their great rebounding limited them to usually just one shot at the basket. Lauren Cohen had a couple of good assists and steals to greatly contribute to the win.
The Stars coach, Joe Fanning, was very complimentary of the Stars' unselfish play and excellent sportsmanship. The team continues to learn and improve as it approaches the halfway mark of the season.
