I would like to respond to the letters that I have been reading in your column concerning a child in the Farmingdale soccer league. I believe that the soccer league was looking at the best interest of the child when they allowed him to join a team after the draft. The fact being overlooked here is that the child participated with a team from the practice to picture day. That is quite a bit of time.
Perhaps it would have been better if, upon complaint of late sign-ups, the decision should have been to keep the child on the team he had already become a part - of instead of not letting him play. The next season, the rule of no late sign-ups could be enforced. This way, no child would be hurt in the process.
Additionally, I must ask this question. Since we are discussing young children, why has this been treated as if it was for the gold medal? It is not for any scholarship or to get on the traveling team. I say, let the children play.
